Dune: Awakening vehicle storage vs encumbrance
Encumbrance is a constant challenge in Dune: Awakening. New players quickly discover that their personal inventory holds only 35 slots, and many resource items—such as heavy stones—fill those slots rapidly. Unfortunately, there is no way to increase personal carry capacity or weight limit through skill trees, abilities, or any character progression. The only reliable method to transport large quantities of materials is to use vehicle storage.
All vehicles in Dune: Awakening come with distinct storage capabilities that function independently from the player’s personal inventory. Four vehicle types offer additional carrying capacity: the Sandbike, Buggy, Sand Crawler, and Ornithopter. For three of these—the Sandbike, Buggy, and Ornithopter—players must fabricate a storage or inventory part to unlock the extra capacity. The Sand Crawler is the exception, as it already includes substantial storage by default.
Choosing the Right Vehicle for Your Needs
The Sand Crawler offers the highest carry capacity at 7,500, making it ideal for long, deep desert expeditions where players need to haul massive amounts of resources. However, its bulk and slower speed make it less practical for short trips. For individual, frequent runs, the Buggy and Sandbike are better choices. They are more agile and require only the fabricated storage part to become effective workhorses for transporting loot back to base. The Ornithopter provides a balanced option, offering good mobility and storage for mid-range journeys.
