Mega Mewtwo Pokémon GO – Debut, Raids & Meta Impact

As GO Fest season arrives, excitement is building around one of the most anticipated Pokémon GO debuts yet: Mega Mewtwo. Starting with the in-person events in Tokyo, followed by Chicago, Copenhagen, and eventually GO Fest Global, Trainers will have their first chance to encounter Mega Mewtwo in raids. The community has long awaited these forms, and many are already stockpiling Raid Passes in preparation. However, beyond the prestige of catching a Mega Legendary, the key question is how Mega Mewtwo will shape the PvE raid and gym meta.

Mega Mewtwo Typings and Defensive Differences

Mewtwo, the Generation I Psychic-type Legendary, has two distinct Mega Evolutions. Mega Mewtwo Y remains a pure Psychic type, meaning it shares the exact same defensive profile as base Mewtwo. Mega Mewtwo X, on the other hand, gains a secondary Fighting type, which significantly alters its matchups. The addition of Fighting removes its weaknesses to Bug and Dark, but introduces new weaknesses to Flying and Fairy. It also exchanges its Psychic resistance for a resistance to Rock-type attacks. These typing changes will be crucial for Trainers deciding which Mega to bring into specific raid battles.
